Siegware was proud to host our second Passive House Tradesperson Practical Day in partnership with the Australian Passive House Association at the Paarhammer Windows & Doors factory in Ballan.

Attended by 10 students, this was the second of our training courses for 2021, hosted by our resident construction contact Andrew Ferguson with Dale Roberts from AHPI.

In the tradesperson course students learn about many passive house principals such as:

  • Passive House Economics
  • Insulation
  • Thermal Bridges
  • Windows
  • Retrofits
  • Airtightness & Moisture
  • Ventilation, heating & cooling
  • Quality assurance

The practical day is the final part of the tradesperson course where students get to apply theory learnt in the course and translate it to practical application. The students successfully used Isocell membranes and tapes to achieve an airtight layer on the inside and outside of a specially made training pod that was tested using a blower door.

Joel Seagren from Fantech also delivered an interesting session on mechanical ventilation topics such as Heat Recovery Ventilators, Enthalpy Recovery Ventilators, ducting and balancing of ventilation systems.

The BBQ lunch was a great way for everyone to recap the information from the morning session, and after lunch the group headed to a passive house building project in Ballarat to see more of the systems in action.

A great day was had by all and we look forward to our next training day in 2022.
